Weekend review: October 17–18. Storm information: NHC Advisory 24, 09:00 UTC October 19. Conditions can change after publication.

The main changes for drivers are a cleared protest blockade at Vícam, continuing questions about older checkpoint reports, and an improving offshore storm situation. A reopened section does not mean the entire route has been checked and cleared.
Highways 15 and 15D: what happened at Vícam?
A protest blocked Federal Highway 15 at Vícam, Sonora, on Saturday, October 17, after a teenager was reported missing. The Fiscalía de Sonora subsequently reported that he had been located and traffic restored. The report identifies Highway 15; it does not establish a closure of the entire 15D toll-road corridor.

Illegal checkpoints: keep the dates and claims straight
Sonora authorities announced an investigation into suspected illegal checkpoints on September 22. That is an important security story, but it is not evidence of a newly confirmed illegal checkpoint over October 17–18. In the sources checked for this report, we did not verify a new weekend illegal checkpoint specifically on 15D. This is not an official all-clear for the corridor.
A protest blockade, an authorized inspection and a suspected fake checkpoint are different situations. Avoid passing along an undated screenshot as a current incident. Ask for the travel date, road number, direction, nearest town or kilometre marker, and an identifiable source.

Trudy: weaker and moving away
NHC Advisory 24 reported Trudy as a tropical storm with sustained winds of approximately 95 km/h, moving west away from Mexico. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect in that bulletin. Further weakening was expected, with a post-tropical transition forecast for tonight.
Dangerous surf and rip currents can continue along southwestern and west-central Mexico today. The removal of storm warnings does not certify roads, ports or beaches as open. Check local conditions after the rain and never drive through floodwater.

Other weekend road incidents
Sunday reports listed crash-related lane restrictions on Isla–Acayucan at km 160 toward Acayucan and Acatzingo–Ciudad Mendoza at km 222 in both directions. The same roundup reported traffic restored on Córdoba–Veracruz at km 1 toward Córdoba and Acatzingo–Ciudad Mendoza at km 168 toward Ciudad Mendoza. These are dated October 18 reports, not a claim that restrictions remain in place Monday.

Reader report: Colombia–Solidarity to Matehuala
In a recent On the Road in Mexico group report, Lorne Green described a smooth crossing at Colombia–Solidarity International Bridge and a trouble-free drive to Las Palmas in Matehuala. He reported professional, friendly agents and an increased police presence along his journey. This is one traveller’s account, not an independently verified route-wide all-clear, and it concerns a different corridor from Highway 15/15D. The exact travel date was not confirmed in the supplied excerpt.
Before you leave
Check the specific route shortly before departure. For the CAPUFE network, consult CAPUFE or call 074; check Guardia Nacional Carreteras for federal-road notices. Travel between cities in daylight, allow extra time after heavy rain, and follow local instructions. Emergencies: 911.
Driven this route recently? Share the date, time, direction and exact location, and describe what you personally saw. One successful journey is useful information, not proof that every section is clear.
