Window Fabrication Shop Opens La Penita

Window Fabrication Shop Opens La Penita

Having watched several houses being constructed it was interesting to note that the Mexican masons do not build openings for windows according to blueprint specifications. Instead, the window/door fabricator comes onsite after the walls are constructed and fabricates the windows to fit the opening in the cement block wall. Until very recently, this was the only way to get windows. Last year, Hector Contreras Romero, an experienced aluminum fabricator from Tepic, opened a shop in La Penita. He stocks a good selection of materials for showers, windows, doors including hardware and glass.

The Aluminios y Complementos shop is located next to the highway on Calle Francisco Villa #1, across from Modelo distributor. Hector grew up in La Penita but after high school went to work for a window company in Tepic to learn the trade. “30 years ago La Penita was a sleepy little village without many jobs,” said Hector. “My wife is from Tepic so we stayed in that city. I learned all types of styles and designs and how to work with various metals.”  He is experienced making doors and windows both residential and commercial size. “I enjoy helping homeowners fix a problem!” As the Jaltemba Bay area is experiencing a building boom, Hector was able to return to his hometown.

After operating his own business for 28 years, Hector has seen the availability of materials improve. “For our high humidity, high salt climate, coated aluminum is the longest lasting material for window frames. It is less maintenance than iron and looks better so it is worth the expense.” The same with screening: the new vinyl mesh is much more durable than the metal screening that was used in the past.

As with most area businesses, Hector requires longer delivery time from December through May due to work volumn. He will come for an appraisal within one day and completion of a screen, door, or window depends on the size and specific materials required. All of Aluminios products have a one year guarantee. “I stand behind my work,” said Hector. “I provide customer satisfaction.”

When he’s not working, Hector enjoys restoring old cars and playing with his grandchildren.
