Wednesday Event Supports JBAR Animal Initiatives

Imagine a hard life on the dusty streets in small Mexican villages along the Jaltemba Bay. Most homeless animals live on the fringe of society: struggling to find enough to eat, surviving fights over the rancid garbage, scratching to try to ease the constant itch of voracious ticks, fleas, parasites. The economic recession has made the situation even more critical for homeless animals. When the street animals sleep, do they dream of an easier life with security and a full belly? Do they dream that humans can be trusted?

Thanks to the efforts of the Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue (JBAR) group of volunteers led by Lin Chimes, each year hundreds of homeless dogs and cats are given medical treatment. A fortunate few dogs and cats are given a chance for a better life through adoption. For over ten years JBAR has provided two spay/neuter clinics to assist the street animals and to provide free vet service to local people and their pets, providing spay/ neutering for nearly 10, 000 animals in the Jaltemba Bay area since 2010.

Although the pandemic has caused the cancelation of several spay/neuter clinics, JBAR has provided spay/neuter service on a smaller scale with La Penita veterinarian, Dr. Aldo Barba. Fortunately, there are many concerned JBAR supporters in the area who are stepping up to have several mini fundraisers to generate money to be able to hold a clinic this spring.

On Mondays you can go to Alicia’s Tours Guayabitos for fantastic margaritas and a great 50/50 raffle. Proprietor Koral is a feline guardian angel that fosters and rescues kittens all year long.

Coming up on Wednesday, February 23, there is a Beach Bingo   party at Victor’s Restaurant. This outdoor party has limited seating so come early. Or, stop by to purchase raffle tickets or to simply donate to JBAR.

Mike and Andrea Burger, Guayabitos host a fun beerarita stand periodic for those that walk to the Thursday market. Their last effort generated $10,000 mx. Look for more in the future!

In case you didn’t know, JBAR has been operating the Los Ayala Dog Feeding Project for two years.  The tubes and rain covers were looking pretty beat up so Horacio Vázquez collected the rain covers and took them to his house to refresh.  In addition, he had to repair some of the feeding and water tubes as they were subjected to some vandalism and needed to be completely replaced.  Next, Horacio had to come up with a way to discourage the large amount of birds that seemed to like the food.  Unfortunately, within a matter of days someone had stolen the cap off one of the tubes that keeps the water and food clean.  It may not seem like a big deal but it increase the cost of operation. JBAR has four feeding stations in Los Ayala that are heavily used by the dogs.  Please, you can designate a donation for the purchase of dog food for this initiative. No donation money goes towards the construction and maintenance of the feeding stations 100% goes towards the purchase of food.

There must be a special place in heaven for the leaders of the JBAR clinic-Lin Chimes for initiating and directing the project; Dr. Malcolm Macartney, vet extraordinaire; Drs. Anthony and Poly from PEACE Mexico, Dr. Karin, canine dental specialist, local vet, Dr. Ald Barba; and the other Canadian veterinarians who travel to volunteer at the clinic.

Dr. Malcolm established the Mexi-Can Vet Project in 2010 and has been a real asset to the JBAR efforts. Not only does Dr. Malcolm share his professional expertise but he raises funds that pay for the much needed medical supplies. He is such an amazing guy!

Veterinarians Dr. Anthony and Dr. Poly work for the Mexican non-profit based in Puerto Vallarta, PEACE Animals, to provide spay neuter clinics to the small towns along the Pacific coast throughout the year.  The mobile vets will be in LAS VARAS in March 23 to 26 so plan to take your pets. Contact PeaceAnimals for the location of the Las Varas Clinic.

Rescue animals make wonderful, super loyal pets. You can send Lin Chimes a FB message to find out about available animals that need a home. If you wish to donate (from Canada or anywhere,) eTransfer to linchimes@hotmail.com or PayPal is available.
