The shooting that lasted more than half an hour in Rincón de Guayabitos , Nayarit , was caused by a criminal group in an attack against elements of the Mexican Army , said the governor of the entity, Antonio Echevarría , through his Twitter account .

“This morning, in the Guayabitos area , Compostela municipality , a criminal group attacked elements of the Army , who immediately repelled the attack,” said Echevarría .

The confrontation took place on federal highway 200 , next to Guayabitos beach , a growing tourist area of ​​the state. A witness told Latinus that on Saturday morning, a group of armed civilians robbed the facilities and hotel workers in the area. 

The theft report caused a roadblock to be made. Elements of the army asked the vehicles in which the alleged criminals were traveling to stop, but they did not pay attention and attacked the soldiers . That is how the shooting began in Guayabitos .

“From the State Government, we support the prompt response of our Armed Forces to restore order in the area, and we ask society to remain calm and act prudently,” said Echeverría in a second tweet.

The witness consulted by this portal says that at least until 2:30 in the afternoon, helicopters and elements of the National Guard and other corporations are looking for the alleged criminals in the region, in which the Guayabitos hotel zone is located .

So far, no injuries or deaths have been reported .
