Riding with “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” on their back

Bill Bell

When one travels throughout Mexico, there is almost always something that stands out as “unique”, “beautiful” and in this case moving.   Hundreds of young pilgrims on cycles from Mayan villages make the perilous and long journey home from Mexico City’s Our Lady of Guadeloupe’s Shrine carrying heavy “holy and blessed” items back to their churches.   The highway is long and hazardous, the young men’s faces covered with soot from the exhaust of the trucks and cars that go whizzing by, often just inches from the riders.  Bill and Dorothy Bell Photographs
