Maxieventos Doris: Premier Party Planner

 Tara A. Spears

Everyone loves a party but when on vacation, how can you set it up? Just one telephone call to party planner Doris Garcia Plascencia and you’ll have a memorable, carefree event! If you have a balcony, access to a yard or want a beach blowout, Doris will make it happen with ease. With 12 years’ experience her portfolio shows her flair and talent. Even more important is that Maxieventos is PROMPT, professional, and honest. If you have attended any Jaltemba Bay fundraisers, you have experienced the Maxieventos Doris creativity.

Senora Doris could be the face of the modern Mexican ads because she embodies all the qualities that define the 21st century Mexicano.  She was born in Nayarit and has lived her entire life in La Penita. Doris learned love of country and social responsibility from her grandfather and parents. “My grandfather was active in the pueblo and was elected president of the ejido,” explained Doris with pride.  “My family always participated in pueblo activities.”  In fact, it was her grandfather that had the first telephone in La Penita and neighbors could use it make calls. Her grandfather always helped those less fortunate and passed that attitude on to his granddaughter.

Doris enjoyed growing up in a small, country town in the 1980s. “I loved going to school and learning,” said Doris. “But when I was a teenage, it was expected to go to work right away. I dreamed of more studies but it just wasn’t available.”  Another dream Doris had was to have her own business. When she got married, her family had to drive to Puerto Vallarta to rent the tables, chairs and other things for the reception because there were none in Jaltemba Bay.” After talking the idea over with her husband, Juan Terron Sulazar, he agreed that it was something La Penita needed as the town was growing in population.

The hard working couple began by purchasing tables and chairs. “I love to sew so initially I made the tablecloths and napkins as needed for events. The young party planning company, Fiestas by Doris, was well received.   As the business grew, so did the Terron family: little Maxi was born. But the loving parents were devastated to learn their infant son had a fatal defect. Sadly, he passed away one day after his first birthday. The grieving parents renamed the business to “Maxieventos Doris” as a tribute to him. If you look carefully at the business card you will see a tiny angel above the name. After a while, Doris’ hope and prayers were answered when she welcomed another baby: a healthy boy. Aaron Yazud Terron Garcia is now 11 years old and the joy of the Terron family.

With typical Mexican tenacity and hard work, Maxieventos Doris is now ‘the go to’ company for all fiesta needs. “I can provide everything- furniture, table covers, dishes, glasses, silverware, food, decorations, stage, portable dance floor (helpful for beach events,) entertainment, and specialty cakes- all delivered and arranged to the customer’s satisfaction.” You can visit her office located on Calle Bahia Punta de Mita, second door from main avenida in La Penita.  Doris has catalogs to show the options. Of course, prising depends on quantity needed.

The customer decides the date and theme then simply chooses the style he or she envisions for their party. Doris and Juan will take it from there! “It’s important that if you are wanting a party between November and March, to contact me as soon as possible because the dates fill up quickly due to holidays and the influx of seasonal residents.” Doris shared that gold and white is the most requested color scheme. The largest event Maxieventos Doris provided was a private party for one thousand quests! Not surprisingly, weddings and anniversaries are the most common type of events catered locally, but there is also a demand for birthdays, First Communion and Quinceañera.  You can look at photos for years of her parties on her social media on FB:  Maxieventos Doris

It’s taken more than 25 years but Doris is finally able to reach out for another of her dreams: attend university. For the last two years, this busy mother and businesswoman is taking weekend classes to work towards earning a bachelor’s degree in Educational Psychology. Always a caring person, Doris has donated to many of the local causes when she is able. In the current shut down due to the covid pandemic, Doris stepped up and volunteered tents and tables for the soup kitchens- hugs for this helping hand especially when your business is shut down, too!

It is an honor to know this sincere, kind lady who cares about her family, friends and community. Your perseverance is remarkable!  It must be noted that the humble Doris did not tell me about her donations but because I volunteer with several of the service groups that I have observed her contributions.  Thank you, Senora, for your talent; we wish you every success towards your dreams!
