Free Clinic for Dogs & Cats Begins Sunday

For most people that volunteer or donate to the Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue clinic, it’s about love for animals. But while the free spay/neuter clinic does help the area dogs and cats have healthier, longer lives, this clinic also benefits the community by helping reduce feral populations and finding forever homes for many animals. 
The founder of the JBAR Clinic, area resident Lin Chimes said, “Thanks to the kindness and generosity of JBAR supporters and volunteers these animals have a second chance.” You can be involved for a few hours starting today, Sunday, 12 November and continuing through 15 November on Avenue Sol Nuevo #43, Guayabitos.
“If you plan on helping, please contact me via private FB message as to when you’re available (full days/ half days)” said Andrea Burger who is organizing the volunteers this year. “We are also in need of people who are willing to help us do clinic set up on Friday the 10th at 9 AM.”

If you are first learning about this amazing non-profit group of volunteers, JBAR is the idea of Lin Chimes who organized the first clinic in 2003. As with many great solutions, worldwide animal lovers have supported the 39 subsequent spay neuter clinics. “ Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue advocates humane and healthy practices for animals in the Jaltemba area by promoting health, education, free spay and neutering, adoptions, foster care and positive relationships with animals and their owners.”
The converting of a home into a temporary clinic is incredible! There are multiple surgeries occurring simultaneously as well as post-op recovery areas; the organization is clean, efficient and very impressive! Injured animals are also treated as well as dental care provided for the dogs. What is so amazing is that all equipment, tables, medical supplies and cages must be hauled in and set up. The JBAR clinic success is measured not just by the number of animals that participate by inspiring another generation to get involved as illustrated in the following photos.
Various JBAR volunteers have given lessons to area schools in an effort to help the community understand why it is important to spay and neuter animals. “Many times these dogs and cats (if left unaided) cause a health risk, as they often have parasites, and many other problems, as a result of roaming the streets and eating contaminated food. It is JBAR’s goal to help save as many animals as possible and prevent future animal suffering.”
This 2023 Clinic welcome back Mexican ‘Pets for Life’ mobile veterinary team: Dr. Poly Lopez, Dr. Jesus Pacheco, Dr. Andrea Garcia and vet techs Lorena Ureña and Concepción Ureña. Dr. Darren Ludbrook, a volunteer vet from Clearbrook, and his daughter Kelly will also join the team. Giving a couple hours of your time will help so many deserving animals- and you will meet lots of good-hearted people. Don’t forget, volunteers are still needed for set-up, 4 days of the clinic, and take down of everything.

On the surface, it might seem as if you rescue an animal, but any rescue pet owner will tell you straight up that it is always the dog/cat who saves the person.
