Fashion Show 2020 Ticket Sales Begin Thursday November 28

It’s time to get your ticket for the January 22, 2020 Rhapsody in Blue Fashion Show. Marilyn Doll (above photo) will have a table at the back entrance to Casa Rosetta Restaurant off the plaza at the Thursday market from 10 am until noon. It is the afternoon partee of the season!

Yes, the event is amazing but more important is the reason for the party. The backstory of the group illustrates how a good idea can have a huge impact. In 2002, a group of retired women friends from Canada and the United States decided to help local Mexican seamstresses by putting on a show of local sewers original clothing.  The retired ladies chose to be the models and it was held at a local restaurant.  Originally, this first ‘fashion show’ was planned to be just a one-time party. “We never imagined that so many women would be interested,” said Val Schrowe, one of the original group who is still active with the committee. “Then we realized that we had a fun way to raise money to help people in the Jaltemba Bay community.” The annual Fashion Show has grown during the 16 years to become the largest non-profit gala in Riviera Nayarit!

Due to the strong positive reaction to the event, these kind-hearted and talented ladies got serious about what Fashion Show could accomplish by making Fashion Show a continuing annual event. The original committee voted on a formal name –Women to Women Fashion Show- and devised a mission statement to determine use of the generated money.

The mission statement for Women to Women Fashion Show is “to raise funds in order to help the women and children of the Jaltemba Bay area”. The bulk of Fashion Show proceeds (currently 70%) is dedicated to providing university scholarships for local young women.  In addition to the university scholarships, Fashion Show’s other current projects include giving free breakfasts at the La Penita Secondario School to 60 disadvantaged students; a Christmas Food Basket Gift to 44 local low economic families, and contributing to the La Penita Breast Cancer clinic. Other projects that the FS has financially supported have been installing elementary school structures, donating to GEMA and installing a kitchen to the Senior Center.

From its inception, Women to Women Fashion Show has improved the quality of life for many Jaltemba Bay residents by putting food in their bellies and opening the door to a future of increased economic earning through education. None of the executive committee members or any of the nearly one hundred volunteers has ever received any payment for the many hours they give to ensure the Fashion Show is an enjoyable party.

You’re invited to see for yourself what all the talk is about! Have your picture taken on the red carpet!
