October 11–17, 2026 · Nayarit highlights
Weather remains the immediate concern for Nayarit’s coastal communities. This week’s local edition also looks at Tara A. Spears’ new story and the cultural calendar ahead.
Trudy: check the warning for your stretch of coast
In the October 17, 3 p.m. CST advisory, the tropical storm warning extended north of Cabo Corrientes through San Blas, including the Bahía de Banderas coast. Trudy’s rain bands may cause local flooding. Warning areas and forecasts can change quickly: consult the latest bulletin, your municipality and Protección Civil before travelling or going to sea. Simón’s end does not mean recovery is finished
Simón dissipated on October 16, according to NOAA’s final advisory. Communities affected by rain and coastal flooding still need local checks on access and services. Do not assume an earlier beach closure has either continued or been lifted without confirmation. NOAA’s Simón information.
Tara’s Xolo story brings local traditions into focus
Tara A. Spears’ “Xolo: Man’s Best Friend Even in the Afterlife” connects Mexico’s ancient dog with traditions of remembrance. Her illustrated story includes community programmes around Bahía de Banderas and La Peñita, along with remembrance of departed pets. Read Tara’s story and view the event posters.
Day of the Dead planning begins close to home
The posters accompanying Tara’s story include Xantolo programming in Bahía de Banderas and activities in La Peñita. Read each poster for its venue and date, and confirm arrangements with the organiser before leaving, particularly while storm conditions affect the region.
Punta Mita’s autumn events continue into November
Nayarit’s public broadcaster reports an autumn calendar in Punta Mita with golf and food events. Upcoming dates include the National Senior Amateur Championship, October 22–25; Flavors of Punta Mita, October 31; and Gourmet & Golf, November 5–8. Confirm access, reservations and weather changes directly with organisers. Read the announced calendar.
What drivers should know this week
Before using Highway 200 or travelling between coastal communities, check current local reports. Rain, runoff and debris can affect a route even after a storm moves away. Never cross moving floodwater, and follow instructions from road crews and emergency personnel.
