Just an easy 10 minute drive south of Jaltemba Bay is the attractive village of Lo de Marco. Not only does the town boast of a pristine beach but now there is a Saturday outdoor market (tianguis in Spanish.)
While La Penita’s Thursday tianguis is much larger, several of the vendor’s participate in Lo de Marco market, such as Yolanda the baker. But there are several different types of vendors, for example, organic foods and hand-sewn clothes from southern Chiapas, that are not at the Jaltemba Bay markets. Unfortunately, the vendors aim for the foreign tourists- which means the items are very pricey. When I visited, there were no practical items like kitchen/home items, or silver jewelry.

It is a very pleasant day trip especially if you include lunch at one of Lo de Marcos’ restaurants. Enjoy fresh seafood or a bistro type meal in this authentic Mexican village. You can also stop by the new library and community center before leaving town.
