Holiday-season fireworks noise is harmful for pets

Veterinarians demand that society avoid the use of pyrotechnics near pets and animals…

Veterinarian Wilberth Alexis Dzib explained that the holiday season commonly brings an increase in the use of fireworks, which causes severe damage to pets.

This is due to the fact that their ears are much more sensitive than humans’ ears, and the noise can cause pets to run away from home in search of a safe place.

“The effects that pyrotechnics cause in animals can be very severe, it should also be clarified that not all dogs are the same, this is due to the sensitivity of the ears of puppies that are three times more sensitive than humans,” he said.

For his part, he recommended to those who own pets to take certain precautions to avoid being affected.

“The most important thing is to avoid pyrotechnics, but if you can’t control the use of those thing around your dogs, you should keet the animals at home, in a closed area. To reduce the noise of the pyrotechnics you could turn on some music or pleasant sound and take your pets for a walk during the day to allow them to release the energy and that may make easier for them remain asleep at night,” recommended the expert.

Also, the doctor added that in case animals have severe consequences, go to your veterinarian.

“Some painkillers could be administrated to dogs, but only a certified veterinarian must do it, it is really important, do not apply to them any human painkiller, their body is different, those would be the recommendations of my part,” he added.
